Sample five-day itinerary for a private group. Combine Shanghai’s waterfront and neighbourhoods with slower mornings in Hangzhou. This route suits travellers who enjoy food, tea and gardens and want time to linger between visits.
Five days in Shanghai and Hangzhou
Day 1 · Arrive in Shanghai. Settle in, choose an easy dinner close to the hotel and leave time for a short walk if everyone arrives early.
Day 2 · Explore Shanghai. Walk a stretch of the Bund, then pick one focus for the afternoon. Spend it looking at architecture, exploring a neighbourhood or taking your time over lunch.
Day 3 · Continue to Hangzhou. Plan around the transfer and hotel check-in. If the weather cooperates, choose a short stretch of West Lake for an afternoon walk.
Days 4–5 · Make time for tea and departure. Explore the Longjing tea area or plan a tasting. Decide whether the final day should allow for one more lake visit or be reserved for an onward connection.
Make the route work for you
Tell us where you fly out, how much walking suits the group and whether tea is a priority. With a Shanghai departure, allow for the return transfer before adding activities. For wet weather, consider a museum or indoor tasting and keep the lakeside walk flexible.
